I diversi gradi dell’esteriorità domestica sono stati modulati nel tempo attraverso aperture o chiusure, con un momento determinante, quando l’involucro è stato liberato dalle sue funzioni portanti. Da lontano, la facciata modernista ha molteplici letture e la spessa ‘quarta parete’ diaframmata di Le Corbusier non è la stessa della fine facciata continua di Mies. La domesticità contemporanea gioca con la creazione di soglie per estendere il dominio vivibile al di fuori dell’involucro. La tridimensionalità facilita la costruzione di spazi vivibili all’interno di una facciata spessa.
